Media frenzy over Anna Nicole Smith's death

"Are we watching because we're interested, or because that's what we're being fed? "

"I can see the newsroom frenzy: Let's see, there's the war in Iraq, but that's a downer; nothing's new in New Orleans; and Scooter Libby's trial —what is that all about anyway? Back burner that. We'll go live to Florida. Any video of Anna Nicole's body being moved? "

These quotes are from Nancy Giles' comments on CBS Sunday Morning (click on the link below for the full article). She asks the question -why do we find the life of this person so fascinating? Is it because we are "fed" the story by the media, which considers this a money-maker? Interesting - on google.com, if you typed her name, you would get 35,000,000 hits. If you typed "American soldiers who died in Iraq", you would get 6,400,000 hits.

Click on the link below. Do you agree or disagree with Nancy Giles? Do you think she brought up important questions that we need to think about - particularly about our values as a society?

The perspectives from other people from other counties may make a stereotype about Americans. “American is Media Frenzy.” But the fact is most of us are media frenzy. Americans are one who makes the choice. They can either watch or refuse to watch and do something else instead. But it is news and we can’t ignore it. If we want media focus more on important issues and events, then we will need to ignore non-important events like not buy magazine, poster, and picture of Anna Nicole Smith. Then media like reporters and newspaper companies will have nothing to earn profit and will find other way to get profit. Other words may said, which is if interesting of people in America change then media will change.

People, reporters, newspaper companies, and magazine companies have advantages and disadvantages from unnecessary media. For example, Ann Nicole Smith’s death and she had nothing to do with our society and world. We also not even know who she is. She is big different person compare to Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, and one who charity much of his money to world. But people have both advantages and disadvantages from media of her death.

The advantages for reporters, newspaper companies, and magazine companies are they may have no more new news to tell. We may get tire of hear about war in Iraq and more soldiers are died in there. We do interest in new and unusually news, something different from common news that show daily. Also, new and never-see-before news will kept us in touch with news that going on in our world. Other advantage is they will earn money as profit if they find good, unusually, and attractable news.

The advantages for people in America are entertainment. Many of us do have free time and want to use that time as enjoyable time. Therefore, we can use non-important news in our free time. Also we do want to kill our time sometime, so, unnecessary news may help us too. Other thing is we will be able to have thing to discuss everyday. That will be better with much news as media instead same event or issue everyday. For example, at the break time, a worker told other worker that 10 American troops were dead yesterday. Next day, at the break time, same worker told other worker about other five troops were dead yesterday. Next day, at the break time, the worker told other worker about a troops get honor for hard work in battle. That will be boring and dull news for whole year. Instead that, once or more a week with unusually news may make news not dull and boring anymore. For example, a bird killed a man or about Smith’s death.

The disadvantages for reporters, newspaper companies, and magazine companies are nothing but very few for people in America. The disadvantages are waste our time, waste our money, and learn nothing. Some of us are over pay attention to not important issues. We also maybe not realize that we are waste our money for media that learn nothing.

I think most media creators are thinking about money and how can they earn more profits. All of media is about money. My finally comment about it is I think our media across the line about not important issue and events. My opinion is unnecessary media should be reduce by 25% to 50% and replace it with education and important issues and events.

I agree with Anonyomous about "most of us are media frenzy"..

I admit it, when my dad told me about Anna Nicole Smith's death and I dont believe him so I went to watch the T.V. about her. I was so curious and keeping watch... I did read the "People" magazine about Anna Nicole Smith's son death. I know that she is nobody, she is just a playboy, nothing special about her. People tend to admire Hollywood movie stars, playboy stars, many things because they have MONEY.. It's alll about the money. They are rich! People like to hear the stories about them, good or bad didnt matter.

Smith had lot of drama in her life since. People have choice to watch or hear about her.. Magazine, newspaper, many ways to spead the infomations around and they earn money.

Media took people's attention about not important news and they forget about something important. For example, many people watch and hear lot about "bride runway" <-- it's not really important.. but no one care about Africa, many people who innocent got killed.. Which is IMPORTANT.. AFrica, not "bride runaway" no one got killed. People have choice which to hear or watch. Dont forget most people are small minds, from another blog about the quote.. Media put the lot of gossips and many things.

We, people have choices. Many people out there are same.. People do want to know what happen to her.

Most people like to hear which not important issue, people might not realize what they are doing. Media dont care about how people feel about "cross the line". Most of media crossed the line. They care about money, not how they feel. Which is not fair. Life is never fair. =/

I am agree with anonymous because we re Media Frenzy for most of time.

I am admit that I learned about Anna Nicole Smith's death because I never thought that way she died as I thougth because of her depression of her son, Daniel's death. When I found out about her that I was on the computer and saw the internet of Anna's death. I was so shock that she died because I want to know how she died. But I think that she was so depressed becuase of her son, Daniel's death but also, its may involve the drugs. Thats why I read the internet about what Anna's mother blame the drugs for her daughter's death. But what about Anna's daughter, Daniellynn because she wont know her own mother when she will grown up.

I am agreeing with Chevy because many people are interest in the story whats going on and who are famous that have billions of money to buy the house or whatever the reporters always do that who shows that as like WOW. But they should going to find out whats going on with the real world like war in iraq and in dafur who need help because some bad black people killing some innocent black people. Thats which is really important. But its not important that whats happen as like A bride run which is stupid.

Thats why we in this class realize that what its about media frenzy we thought but we knows that its not really important. But people might not realize but they have a choices which they want to know whats happen or not.

Bwahahaha. Anna Nicole Smith? Who in blue blazing is she? Apparently, a person not worth mentioning in my eyes. Why are we failed to heed on such events that might have an impact in our life, rather than dramatic events? There is no point whether news should make any news over a person's death. Heck, if it's just because she's part of Playboy, she can get all attention she wants? Why are we forced to hear such dramatic news over a woman who apparently got so depressed that she wanted to die with her son? Let me tell you something, SHÉS NOT THE ONLY ONE!! I joined golf, baseball, academic bowl, football, vice versa and yet I get no attention from media? If we pay attention to her, why don't we all pay attention to me and you?

It's unfortunate that the news have absolutely nothing to say. Why could they not focus on civilization, politics, and other countries? Instead, they focus on people who have no impact to others.
